About me

I recently completed my studies in the journalism program at Mount Royal University and will be graduating in June with a Bachelor in Communication.

I grew up on a commercial cattle farm outside of Caroline, Alta., where I learned many western-style ranch skills, including moving and sorting cattle on horseback. My family's fondness for the cattle industry carried over into our extra-curricular activities. I was a 4-H member for seven years where I showed beef steers.

Belonging to the Rocky South 4-H Beef Club taught me many things. Not only was I able to increase my knowledge about the beef industry, but I also gained confidence

in public speaking and learned the logistics of a business meeting during my time as

club president. I still enjoy contributing to 4-H. Over the past few years I have volunteered to judge public speaking at both the club and district level.

During the time I've spent in the journalism program, I have learned how to produce engaging content through the use of writing, photography and videography. These multimedia skills have aided me in many journalism projects. I'm most proud of my investigative news story on the lack of funding for the Medical First Response Program in Alberta, although a documentary I                co-produced on Alberta's feral horses is a close second.

One of the most challenging, yet rewarding projects I've worked on is a multimedia news website detailing the issue of over-tourism in Banff National Park called Selling SceneryThis website provides an extensive look into how tourism affects Banff's ecology and economy.
